Spring 2 Playlists
This half term our topic is called Playlists. Throughout this topic we will be exploring a range of genres of music; comparing and contrasting the different sounds and instrument used in order to discuss our own preferences when it comes to music.
Year 4 performing a Flashmob in the Co-operative store in Atherstone.
As part of Reach2’s“11 before 11” philosophy- (before reaching 11 years old our children will have had 11 fun and memorable experiences) both classes performed a dance to the song “Food Glorious Food” as part of their topic “Playlists”. Choreographed by Nikki Deeming, the children worked very hard during the spring half term to learn both the song and the dance moves by heart. Although nervous when they realised they would be performing the dance in such a public place, they did themselves and our school proud.
This half term, our topic is Misty Mountains.
This half term our topic is 'Potions.' During this topic we will be looking at the use of herbs and other medicines.
In science we will explore solids, liquids and gases. This will encompass changes in state, and in particular, the water cycle.
During our 'Witches and Wizards' topic entry day, we investigated mixing different potions. While we were combining ingredients we looked carefully to observe any chemical reactions that took place. Some mixtures fizzed, some changed colour and some smelled disgusting! We also investigated the capacity of different potion bottles. First we estimated, then we used cylinders to measure the actual capacity of each container. Finally we designed our own potion bottle and label.
Our topic this half term is 'The Blue Abyss.' We will learn all about the oceans of the world and in particular the deepest parts and what lives there. We will be finding out what bioluminescence means and how it is used by organisms in the ocean.
To support our leaning we went on a trip to The Sealife Centre in Birmingham, where we saw a wide variety of different creatures. During our tour with a guide, we learned lots of facts and had a go at jumping as high as a penguin!
