Welcome to 1CW

Mrs Walker, Mrs Cross and Mrs Laight will be working with your children to ensure they reach their full potential in all areas of the curriculum this year.

Our topics are very exciting and we hope the children will be inspired by them. We would like to encourage them to bring in anything from home that is related to our current topic, such as books, posters, artefacts, photos and DVDs.

Summer 2 - Rio De Vida

Are you ready to dress up in your brightest carnival clothes, make richly coloured bunting and flags to decorate the classroom? Let's listen to and play carnival music  and join in by clapping, dancing and moving our bodies in time.

Live music, costumes, dancing and singing. Let’s get ready to party!

During our final topic of this year, we will listen to the music of Brazil and see how many instruments we can hear, we will look at a world map or globe to locate Brazil and its capital city, Brasilia,  talk about its human features and think about what it might be like to live there. We will compare this with life in our own area.

In Art, we will use coloured feathers to make a headdress for a samba parade. Choose a variety of different colours and sizes to stick onto a card band and decorate our card bands with jewels, sparkling glitter and beads

We will listen carefully to samba music as played at the Rio de Janeiro carnival then experiment with ways of moving our body to its rhythms. Practise shaking, wiggling, stepping, skipping, twisting and turning. Can we move to the beat?

Can you learn some phrases and greetings in the official language of Brazil, Portuguese?

Learn about Brazilian percussion instruments and produce some of your own. Decorate them using vibrant carnival colours. Research the instruments online and listen to the different sounds they make… Then create your very own samba band!

Watch the animated film ‘Rio’ and  create a digital animation.

Carnival Rio de Janeiro Stunning Parade!

Summer 1 - The Enchanted Woodland

If you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a BIG surprise!

Foxes and badgers, voles and mice, beady-eyed owls in the swaying tree tops. Beneath the leaves are tiny footprints. Animal or imp? You decide...

Deciduous or evergreen? What can you find? Can you match a leaf to its tree? Can you match a petal to its flower?

Let's build a den, stick by stick and branch by branch. Or we could make a teeny tiny home for a woodland fairy!

Then let's party down in the woods, with Mr Fox and all his woodland friends. We'd better not get lost...let's leave a trail as we go!

Make friends with a tree, sit in a quiet wooded area counting how many species of bird you can spot. Make a wacky and wonderful tree boggart , paint a picture of a woodland creature or make a woodland crown.

In English you will be making a mini book about nature and writing a letter to a woodland creature as well as writing instructions for your woodland crown.

In the Enchanted Woodland, you're sure of a big surprise!

What a fantastic trip we had to Ryton Pools today! We made fairy wands then helped the fairies to collect all the birds' feathers that the naughty goblins had stolen and scattered all over the path! We had a marvellous time in the woods, building dens, painting the trees with mud, digging for treasure and hunting for minibeasts.

We did get very dirty, but what a lot of fun!

Our Enchanted Woodland 🤗
Some of us entered the Science competition 😀

Lucy and Finley worked hard over the Easter holiday on their science projects to show how things can change. Well done to both of you!

Spring 2 - Superheroes

KERPOW! Intergalactic greetings! It's time to rescue the planet from evil villains!

Find out who your favourite superhero is. Will it be Spiderman or Wonder woman? Maybe it will be it will be an ordinary person who has achieved great things. Or is it those people who save lives in our emergency services that you admire the most?

Superheroes have super senses. Use yours to identify mystery items by their smell, taste, sound and touch. What do true superheroes eat to keep their senses and special powers sharp?

Can you stop the dastardly plans of Professor Slime? He's dropping his villainous instructions around town. We must stop people following them, but can we make it in time?

Can you help to save the world?

Move like a superhero, make sounds to match you moves and create images and drawings. Learn about historical super heroes and research them on the internet.

Real life Superheroes! Today firefighters from Atherstone Fire Station came to teach us how to stay safe.

Today we had two special visitors.

Hestor the guide dog visited us, with his owner, Laura.

We learned all about what a super hero Hestor is!

He was very well-behaved and we each got to stroke him and give him a treat! 😀

You will take a walk outdoors and think about what you need to wear - wellington boots? A sun hat? A thick winter coat? How do we know what the weather will be like each day? You can have a go at forecasting in our TV studio!
