Good morning! Two more weeks to go! 😮 Please find your home learning for this week below. Maths is more practise with time. Please choose the sheets that will further your learning. Start with the Year 2 revision if you need to, then telling time in 5 minute intervals etc. If you are already confident with these areas look at the other sheets using 12 and 24 hour clock times. Use the two knowledge organisers to help you if you get stuck. Have a great week! Mrs Rous 😀

Welcome to Year 3!

We have a very exciting year planned - including a visit to Cadbury World and an overnight residential trip to Chasewater.

Our first topic is all about food - Scrumdiddlyumptious!!

To launch our topic we made a truly disgusting cake!

We added lots of different ingredients to our recipe and mixed it all together - it was gross!

Cadbury World - September 2019

We had lots of fun at Cadbury World. We wrote our names in chocolate, tempered chocolate and were even able to taste chocolate!

To finish our topic, we tasted fruit, learned how to prepare different fruits and then designed and made our own smoothies. Then we invited our parents in to taste and evaluate them!

All aboard the Polar Express!!

  • When we arrived, we had to have our golden tickets checked by the conductor. School looked so different!! We had to travel through tunnels and along the tracks in the link corridor to get to our classrooms! There were even engines in the reception area and at the bottom of the corridor!!

We had a special message from the Polar Express team too!!!

  •

  • We had a fantastic day in our pyjamas, watching the Polar Express film and enjoying hot chocolate and marshmallows...☕

  • Throughout our Polar Express mini mission, we learned sketching techniques using different lines to create texture and shading. We also explored primary and secondary colours to create colour wheels. Building towards our final piece of artwork, we also investigated tones and tints of blue to create a fantastic colourwash background.

  • Below is a slideshow of the learning process...

Charlie Small: Gorilla City

Who on earth is Charlie Small? Where on earth is Charlie Small??

These are the questions that we needed to answer for our new mini mission.

A mystery backpack had been left by Mrs Skilleter's table. Then a clue arrived, and then another and then some others...

Year 3 managed to work out that Charlie Small had ended up in South America! In the Amazon rainforest! Along the way to finding Charlie, we learned the 7 continents and 5 oceans of the world and where the equator and tropics of Cancer and Capricorn were. We created a map of the world's biomes and learned about the layers of the rainforest and the animals that live in them. Sadly, we also learned about the effects of deforestation of the rainforest on the environment and the animals who live there.

The story of Charlie Small was fantastic! He got struck by lightning and ended up being transported to the Amazon Rainforest! While he was there he wrestled a crocodile, met a mechanical rhino and escaped from a pack of hungry hyenas!!

When he came face to face with a giant snake with huge pointed fangs, we decided that we should write this part of the story.

We brainstormed our ideas, created a story board to show the sequence of events and then acted out the story so that we knew the order. Finally, we wrote the chapter in our own little book. Make sure that you look in our mini mission books to read it!
