The Role of the Governing Body

The Governing Body of the academy has a range of key responsibilities:

• Strategic direction – setting the aims and objectives for the school and agreeing the school improvement strategy
• Holding the Headteacher to account for educational performance
• Overseeing the financial performance of the school

On a practical level this means that we are responsible for many tasks such as looking at the budget, appointing senior staff within the school and evaluating how well initiatives to improve learning in school are working.

Appointments

Ms Willars and Mrs Farnell were appointed by REAch2.

We asked parents to put themselves forward to be governors and Mr Barsby and Mrs East were then appointed following the REAch2 protocols.

Similarly staff members were asked to nominate who they would like as staff governors and Mrs Everitt and Mrs Elsmore were elected.

As Headteacher Mrs Collinson was also invited to join the board.

From September 2016, it is now a requirement that trustees and governing boards publish on their website a register of interests for each of their board members. You must declare any interest you have, or plans you, your spouse, partner or close family members might have, that are related to or might be construed as being related to the school, academy or trust and its budget.
