Our PE day is Wednesday!

A piece of writing and maths homework will be sent home every Friday. This will be due in the following Wednesday.

Remember to read at least three times a week and record this in your child's red reading diary.

🍂 Autumn 1 Curriculum Overview 🍂
Welcome to our Autumn 1 class page! Over the next 8 weeks, we will be working on our Mini-Mission: Lost and Foundhttps://youtu.be/cRAAQ8EWzig This topic will connect our English, Art, Science, and Geography learning, helping children see how subjects link together in meaningful ways.

📚 English
Our key texts are Lost and Found and A Flower in the Snow, supported by high-quality picture books such as Knuffle Bunny and Beegu. We will also explore a range of poetry to develop children’s love of language and rhythm.

Writing outcomes this term include: character and setting descriptions, retelling stories in simple sentences and writing a postcard in role. The children will learn to compose sentences orally before writing them, use capital letters and full stops correctly, and re-read their work to check it makes sense. They will also begin forming letters accurately, spelling simple words, and applying the phonics they already know.

🔢 Maths

We follow the White Rose scheme, this half term we will be focusing on:

Place Value (within 10): recognising numbers, ordering, and comparing

Addition & Subtraction (within 10): using objects, pictures, and number sentences

This will build the foundations for confident number work in year 1.

🌍 Geography

Through our topic Where in the World I Live, children will:

Name and locate the 7 continents and 5 oceans

Identify the 4 countries of the UK and their capital cities

Explore seasonal weather patterns in the UK and compare them with hot and cold areas around the world

Use geographical vocabulary to describe human and physical features

This links beautifully to our stories set in snowy landscapes and helps children understand their place in the wider world.

🍁 Science

Our focus is Seasonal Changes, with a particular look at autumn. Children will:

Observe and describe changes across the 4 seasons

Notice weather patterns and day length

Compare autumn with other times of year

🎨 Art
Linking to Lost and Found, children will learn about artists David McEown, Megan Coyle, and Lucy Qinnuayuak. They will develop skills in painting techniques and collage to create an Arctic scene with a painted background, collaged iceberg, and penguin artwork.

🎶 Music
Our theme is At the Seaside, where children will explore rhythm, pitch, and musical patterns inspired by the coast.

💻 Computing
We will learn about online safety and how to use Purple Mash effectively. Later in the term, children will develop their skills in effective searching, beginning to understand how information is found online.

😊 PSHE
Through Zones of Regulation and My Family and Me, children will learn to recognise and manage their feelings, understand relationships, and appreciate family life.

🙏 RE
We will explore Who is a Christian and what do they believe?, introducing children to key beliefs in Christianity.

⚽ PE
Our PE lessons will focus on Fundamentals, developing core skills such as running, jumping, balance, and coordination.

✨ We are looking forward to an exciting autumn full of discovery, creativity, and new learning! ✨
