2M

Our first Mini mission is Rainbow Fish.

On Immersion Day we created a large Rainbow Fish to go on display in our topic corner. We had so much fun finger painting the colourful scales!

We read the story of The Rainbow Fish and acted it out, using character face masks and then made stick puppets of our own.

In Geography we will learn the names and locations of the World's continents and oceans and we will compare and contrast the physical and human features of Africa and the UK.

In Science we have been learning about animals and their habitats. We have learned about how animals are suited to their habitats, for example polar bears have dense, waterproof fur that keeps them dry and warm in the snow.

We have also carried out an investigation into which type of micro-habitat woodlice prefer!

In PSHE we have been learning about feeling and emotions. We have revisited the Zones of Regulation, identified different emotions and created our own toolbox to help us regulate our emotions ourselves. We have also discussed how different emotions create different physical feelings in our body.

In Art, we have compared ocean artwork, learned how to create tints by adding white paint to blue. We used each tint to paint an ocean background. We then used different collage techniques to create a character from The Rainbow Fish story.

Can you see where we have torn, cut, twisted, coiled, folded and curled the paper?

On World Poetry Day we loved listening to Michael Rosen telling some of his hilarious poems! We especially loved Chocolate Cake!

TIME TRAVELLERS

During this mini mission we will learn about significant events in History. We have placed events on a timeline and learned how we find out about events in history using primary and secondary sources. Our main focus is the moon landing in 1969 and Neil Armstrong.

On Immersion day we found a time capsule from 1969 on our playground!

SPACE CENTRE TRIP

We had an amazing day at The Space Centre! We had a session in the Planetarium, where we learned how astronauts train and what dangers they face travelling into space. We climbed lots of stairs to get to different floors of the rocket, where we pressed lots of buttons, designed our own space rocket & watched it launch, completed puzzles and saw lots of space memorabilia! We also learned about planets, asteroids, put our foot inside Neil Armstrong's footprint and saw a real piece of the moon! We all behaved impeccably too!

In DT we have researched, designed & made our own space shuttles that can be launched.

We chose tools and equipment to make our shuttles by following our designs carefully. We had to make sure that the materials we used would be suitable for the launching method we chose. We had to think about how we would join our materials, how we would cut shapes and how to make it look appealing.

Around the World with Paddington Bear

In this mini-mission we have travelled from Peru to London, England with Paddington. In Geography, we have used compass points to help Paddington follow routes on a map. In Science, we have learned about Charles Mackintosh who invented the first waterproof material and we used this new knowledge to help us test materials to find the best waterproof fabric for a coat for Paddington. In Art, we learned about Sculpting. We studied the products of different Sculptors, especially Henry Moore. We then sketched a Peruvian mountain and followed our sketch to help us sculpt our own mountain out of clay.

On Immersion Day, we discovered a battered suitcase in our classroom! Inside were lots of clues for us to find out about our new mini-mission. We were so excited to learn about Paddington! 🤗

We found pictures of London, maps and marmalade and then followed instructions carefully to make our own mini Paddington!

SCIENCE

We described properties of different waterproof items to help us decide decide which material would be best to make a new coat for Paddington.

WE THEN TESTED MATERIALS TO SEE HOW WATERPROOF THEY ARE!

ART

We worked carefully creating Peruvian mountains by pulling, pinching, scraping, carving, cutting & moulding skills.

Look how proud we are of our finished mountains!

Safer Internet Day

We discussed how we use the internet and learned what we can do if we find things we don't want on our screens, that could put our personal information at risk.

We then sorted images into 2 groups - things we can share online and things that are personal.

PSHE

We have learning about how to stay healthy. We have used role play to share ways we could spend less time on screens. Can you work out what activities we could be doing instead?

We ended our learning by learning how to clean our teeth! 😁

UNSINKABLE?

This term our mini mission is all about the Titanic. In History, we will be learning about primary & secondary sources and we will be placing events of the sinking of the Titanic on a time line and also sequencing significant historical events to see when they took place. In Science, we will be learning about what animals, especially humans, need to survive we will also be carrying out different experiments during Science Week. In DT, we will be researching what food was eaten on the Titanic and designing our own menus. We will finish our mini mission by making apple pies!

One Creative Workshop

To kick off our mini mission we had a drama workshop all about the Titanic. We had great fun pretending to be different class passengers and different crew members aboard the incredible ship. We played games to help us learn the different parts of the ship and also learned how the disaster happened.

SCIENCE WEEK

Science week this year has a focus of Change and Adaptation. During this week we have learned about climate change and how humans have contributed to the rising climate. We have also discussed ways in which we can change our habits to help reduce climate change. Our experiment shows how melting ice on land and in the oceans can affect the level of water. We were shocked to find out how this will affect animal habitats in the future.

We also investigated the colours of felt tip pens and discovered that a single colour is actually created by lots of different colours! Our little minds were blown! 😆

ATHERSTONE BALL GAME!

We were very lucky and got to hold and sign the ball used in this year' ball game 😃

ALL STARS CRICKET

We had an exciting cricket session run by All Stars Cricket Club! We practised different ball skills before taking turns to bat and field! It was great fun! 🏏🏅
