Marvellous Me

Sharing assembly will take place at 9am on a Friday in the Key Stage Two hall, you will be notified by Marvellous Me if your child will be receiving a certificate in sharing assembly. If you no longer have Marvellous Me installed, please contact school for a joining code as this is the main way for us to share messages, good news and reminders with you.

Key information

  • Diaries and reading books should be in school every day.
  • Water bottles should be taken home everyday to be washed and refilled.
  • Please provide a healthy snack (fruit, cereal bar, cheese etc)  or change for the tuck shop.

Wednesday is PE day

Homework

Homework will be given out on a Wednesday (as well as marked) and should be handed in by the following Monday. Homework consists of Arithmetic, Grammar and a short reading activity. Homework should be completed in pencil or a black or blue pen. In addition to this, children are expected to have read at home 3 times each week and have this signed by an adult in their diary. Children can write in their own reads to build their independence, but please check this is accurate when you sign their diaries.

Weekly spellings

Spellings are stuck in the spellings section at the front of your child's diary, new spellings are given out on a Friday and will be tested on the following Friday. Children can access and practice their spellings at home via Spelling Shed.

Access at home

In your child’s diary are their log-ins for TT Rockstars, Sumdog and Spelling Shed. These can be used at home for children to practice their times table fluency, arithmetic fluency and their weekly spellings. Children can also access 'Hit the Button' to practice their mathematics fluency, this does not require a log in.

Looking after our children’s Mental health and Wellbeing

At primary school age, children are developing the emotional and social foundations that will support them throughout life. Their mental health and wellbeing play a vital role in how they learn, build friendships, and cope with challenges. When children feel safe, valued, and supported, they are more confident, engaged, and ready to learn. As parents and educators, we can work together to create nurturing environments where children feel comfortable expressing their feelings and developing resilience. By prioritising wellbeing early on, we help set children up for long-term success both in and out of the classroom.

Tips for you to Support your child’s Wellbeing at Home

  • 🗣Talk regularly: Encourage your child to share how they’re feeling. Listen without judgment and reassure them that all feelings are okay.
  • 🛏Establish routines: Consistent sleep, mealtimes, and downtime help children feel secure and balanced.
  • 🧸 Play together: Play is a powerful way for children to express emotions and build confidence.
  • 🌳 Get outside: Fresh air and physical activity support both mental and physical health.
  • 🎨 Encourage creativity: Drawing, music, and storytelling can help children process emotions.
  • 💬 Model calm and kindness: Children learn emotional regulation by watching how adults respond to stress.
  • 🧘 Teach simple coping strategies: Breathing exercises, quiet time, or a “calm corner” can help children

Autumn 1

It's A Wild, Wild World

In this mini-mission we are learning about volcanoes and earthquakes and the effects both have on the environment and people.

To begin our mini mission, we recreated a volcanic eruption using water, bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. When these materials are mixed together they cause a chemical reaction and gas (in the form of bubbles) is forced out. We decorated our volcanoes and used plastic bottles to recreate this process.

This mini mission is all about two extreme events in our world – earthquakes and volcanic eruptions! We investigated both of these natural disasters and their causes, discussing their impact on the environment. During this mini mission, we explained the creation processes of earthquakes and volcanoes and did our own research, used diagrams, and digital imaging to find out about tectonic plates and where in the world they are found. We used this information and linked it with earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

We explored how the Earth is split into layers, and how these layers form volcanoes over time. We looked at the function of volcanoes, what part they play in the world's ecosystem, and their impact they have on their surrounding area. We have a particular focus on the events of Pompeii, and used a storybook to understand the devastating effects volcanoes have!

Try these links to find out where in the world there are earthquakes and volcanic eruptions right now!

In science we explored different types of materials, their properties and how they might change. We learnt about different properties such as transparency, solubility, waterproof, flexible and stretchy and how different materials have different properties. After understanding the properties we explored how certain materials are appropriate for different jobs and that not every material is suitable for every purpose. We learnt about the three states of matter; solid, liquid and gas, and how these can change through different processes. We also explored how some materials can be mixed together and how some can be separated again through a variety of processes. Through this we found that some changes are reversible and some irreversible.

In Art we learnt about the artists David Hockney and how he uses photographs and online images to create different forms of digital art. We explored his artwork and evaluated it using artistic vocabulary before learning the skills he used to create his digital artwork and applying them to create our own piece of digital art which was a reconstruction of a volcanic eruption.

Autumn 2 - Warriors of the North

In this mini mission we are learning about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings and their impact on British history.

This focus of this mini mission is to continue building our chronological knowledge of British history and to further understand the importance of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings in Britain. During this mini mission we will explore the events that led up to the arrival of the Anglo-Saxons, how Britain was divided into several kingdoms with no clear ruler to unite Britain, how the Vikings played an important role during the Anglo-Saxon period, how Britain was united as one kingdom and the struggles and battles leading up to this.
