6S

Welcome to Year 6

Getting in touch:

P.E. Kit

All children will attend school in their full P.E kit on their assigned P.E Day, for year 6 classes this will be every Friday (if this ever changes a message will be sent out to inform you). They will need a plain white crew neck t-shirt and plain black bottoms (skort, shorts, leggings and jogging bottoms are all acceptable). They will also need P.E pumps or trainers. On colder days children will need to wear their school jumper/cardigan over their P.E top. Please make sure children's earrings are removed or taped up on P.E day. If children are attending any of the sports afterschool clubs, they will need to remember to bring their P.E kit in their bag on those days. Please make sure everything is labelled.

         Break Times

  • Your child should have a water bottle with them every day in school. This can be water or weak squash if your child prefers.
  • You can also pay for milk for your child to have at break time, please speak to the office if you want to do this and they can help you set this up.
  • Please provide them with a healthy snack this could be fruit, a squeezy yoghurt, cheese or dried fruit. Please no crisps, sweets or chocolate bars.
  •

Homework

Children will receive homework each week, this will be set every Thursday and should be completed and returned by the following Thursday. Homework will consist of Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) and Ed Shed activities, both logins are in your child’s diary.

Reading Books

Children will have a colour-banded book to read and share at home. This, along with their reading diary, will need to be in school every day. They may also have a free-read book, as well as the colour-banded book, which is chosen from the book corner within the classroom. We encourage children to read a wide range of books. Please record any reading the children do at home or when you are out and about. They also have a reading bingo sheet to complete over the year which is at the front of their reading diaries please sign the tasks they complete and once completed they will receive a book from the vending machine.

  • In addition, we expect children to read at least 3 times a week and this should be recorded in their reading diary on the dated pages. Parents should sign at the bottom of the page where it says, “home signature”. Their reading will be celebrated within their class.

SATs

The children are required to take part in a national SATs test w/b 11th May 2026 please do not be absent during this test week. This test consists of reading, grammar, spelling and maths papers. We will work hard to ensure that your child reaches the required standard. There will be lots of information over the course of the year and in the run up to the test week itself. At the moment, the best way to prepare is to be in school ready to learn every day. Each lesson missed has an impact on learning.

We look forward to working with you and your child. Thank you for your continued support.

Looking after our children’s Mental health and Wellbeing

At primary school age, children are developing the emotional and social foundations that will support them throughout life. Their mental health and wellbeing play a vital role in how they learn, build friendships, and cope with challenges. When children feel safe, valued, and supported, they are more confident, engaged, and ready to learn. As parents and educators, we can work together to create nurturing environments where children feel comfortable expressing their feelings and developing resilience. By prioritising wellbeing early on, we help set children up for long-term success both in and out of the classroom.

Tips for you to Support your child’s Wellbeing at Home

  • πŸ—£οΈ Talk regularly: Encourage your child to share how they’re feeling. Listen without judgment and reassure them that all feelings are okay.
  • πŸ›οΈ Establish routines: Consistent sleep, mealtimes, and downtime help children feel secure and balanced.
  • 🧸 Play together: Play is a powerful way for children to express emotions and build confidence.
  • 🌳 Get outside: Fresh air and physical activity support both mental and physical health.
  • 🎨 Encourage creativity: Drawing, music, and storytelling can help children process emotions.
  • πŸ’¬ Model calm and kindness: Children learn emotional regulation by watching how adults respond to stress.
  • 🧘 Teach simple coping strategies: Breathing exercises, quiet time, or a “calm corner” can help children
