Art

We are Artists

The National Curriculum for Art and Design aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Produce creative work
  • Explore their ideas and record their experiences
  • Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.

Below you will find information and documentation on how we at Racemeadow Primary Academy, teach our pupils to be great artists who are proud of their work.

Year 6 Art

In Year 6, children have been creating a collaborative collage as part of their mini mission A Wizard’s World. Take a look at how much detail they have included.

Year 2 11B411

As part of our 11B411, Year 2 children created something amazing. They used coloured bottle tops to create hands. They used nails to hammer each bottle top onto a piece of wood then arranged the pieces of wood to recreate our school logo.
You can see it displayed on the front of the school building.

Sculpture in Year 2

In our ‘Around the World with Paddington Bear’ mini mission, we studied the work of sculptor Henry Moore before creating our own sculptures of Peruvian mountains. We looked at photos of mountains and sketched out our designs first then used clay to create our final sculptures.

Year 3 Art

During their Underwater Adventures Topic, year 3 children explored the work of Henri Matisse and identified why he is seen as an influential artist. They analysed his works  using artistic vocabulary and took inspiration to sketch a design of a coral reef collage in their sketchbooks. They used a range of materials to try and replicate parts of the images and practised artistic techniques such as twisting, scrunching, rolling in their sketchbooks. Finally, they created a mixed media collage of a coral reef biome and used a range of artistic vocabulary to describe their own and others’ work.

Year 3 William Morris Inspired Printing

During their Charlie Small mini-mission, Year 3 children explored the work of William Morris and identified why he is seen as an influential artist in Britain. They then replicated a William Morris design in their sketchbooks. Finally, they used natural objects to create prints in the style of William Morris.

Year 6 have been looking at the work of Brian Selznick in Wonderstruck. They, mastered their sketching and drawing techniques and created portraits of Rose or Ben ensuring their work reflected the techniques of Brian Selznick.

Christmas Nutcrackers For Dicken's Night

The children have been very busy painting these giant nutcrackers to be displayed on the bollards in Long Street over the Christmas period. I’m sure you’ll agree, they will really brighten up the town.

Each class has created a Christmas work of art for the Dicken’s art competition. All the pieces will be displayed on the windows of Atherstone Memorial Hall,  throughout the event, for you to view.

Dicken’s Artwork 2022

Take a look at some of the dogs children in KS1 Drawing Club created.

Children in Year 6 have been improving their collage techniques as part of their recent mini mission - 'A Wizard's World'. They created beautiful images of the phoenix from Harry Potter, called Fawkes..

Have a look at the art work we created for Dicken's Night 2021

Each class was asked to create a large piece of art work to be displayed in St Mary's Church for members of the public to view during Dicken's Night.
